San Francisco, CA, September 12, 2005: Authentic Breathing Resources
today announced that Rodmell Press (Berkeley, CA) will publish "The Tao of
Natural Breathing: For Health, Well-Being, and Inner Growth" by Dennis Lewis.
First published in late 1996 in the United States by Mountain Wind Publishing,
and considered by many experts as one of the best books available on breathing
and the breath, "The Tao of Natural Breathing" has been out of print for several
months, though there are still some new copies available through booksellers and
distributors. The book is scheduled for re-publication by Rodmell Press in May
2006.
Author Dennis Lewis, a long-time student of the Gurdjieff Work, Taoism, and
Advaita, teaches authentic breathing, qigong, meditation, and self-inquiry. He
is also the author of "Free Your Breath, Free Your Life" (Shambhala
Publications) and the three-CD audio set "Natural Breathing" (Sounds True).
According to Lewis, Rodmell Press, which specializes in books on yoga, Buddhism,
meditation, and inner freedom, is the perfect publisher for this book. "I am
very excited about working with Rodmell Press owners Donald Moyer and Linda
Cogozzo, who really understand what this book is all about, and about why
healthy breathing is so important in today's stressful world."
Lewis recounts how in his first meeting with them, Donald and Linda told him
that they had both been working with the book for many years, both personally
and with their students, and had wanted to purchase the rights to the book for
some time. When they discovered it was going out of print, they responded
quickly with an offer. Rodmell Press publishes a variety of books by well-known
authors, including Judith Lasater, Reb Anderson, Christina Feldman, Mary Pullig
Schatz, M.D., Vimala Thakar, Jean Couch, Mira Mehta, and Wendy Palmer.
"The Tao of Natural Breathing" has received accolades from many different
quarters. Patricia Holt, in the San Francisco Chronicle, for instance, called it
an "... eye-opening book ... exquisite description of the simple act of
breathing ... a good start in re-educating ourselves to 'whole-body breathing.'
... this is a book to make you (and all your organs) smile."
The Somatics Magazine-Journal said: "The small, comprehensive, exquisite book
spreads before the reader the knowledge and guided breathing experiences
necessary to begin to return to natural breathing. ... a beautiful exploration
of breathing. ... Just reading the book is a meditative experience."
Kenneth R. Pelletier, PhD, author of "Sound Mind, Sound Body" wrote: "In The Tao
of Natural Breathing Dennis Lewis offers an insightful and fascinating
explanation of the therapeutic importance of breathing, and explains why trained
breathing meditation can provide a greater perspective of life."
Michael Grant White, well-known breathing teacher and director of breathing.com
wrote "The Tao of Natural Breathing by Dennis Lewis is filled with drawings,
insights and guidance from an objective and subjective internal ‘organic’
awareness. Dennis walks his talk and knows well the terrain. This approach
towards understanding common denominators of breathing will guide many towards
health and well being as well as help dissolve cross cultural barriers. We ARE
one and breath IS life. Easily one of the top five books on breathing."
And Taoist Master Mantak Chia wrote: "Many books on breathing have been
published over the past several years. None of them, however, has gone as deeply
into the meaning, practice, and benefits of natural breathing as this important
new work by Dennis Lewis. Based on his own long study and research in various
traditions and disciplines, including the Healing Tao, Lewis brings together in
one book the psychosomatic vision, the scientific knowledge, and the vital
practices that can help us discover the power of natural breathing to rejuvenate
and transform our lives."
